Festus

A circus and dance celebration where the living, the ancestors, and the spirits come together in a shared spirit of freedom.

With *Festus*, Recirquel continues its exploration of a unique theatrical language where contemporary circus and dance become one.

Inspired by the mythology, folklore, and spiritual traditions of Romani culture, the show immerses us in the heart of a community in celebration. A celebration that is at once collective, intimate, and spiritual, where encounters, conflicts, dances, rituals, and memory intertwine. In this world, the visible and the invisible coexist. The living engage in dialogue with their ancestors, bodies become vessels of memory, and the celebration gradually transforms into a journey toward transcendence.

Driven by powerful physical expression, acrobatic disciplines on the ground and in the air, and an original musical score inspired by Romani traditions, Festus celebrates freedom, the strength of the collective, and the vital energy that unites a community.

Recirquel has developed its own artistic language, at the intersection of contemporary circus and dance. The company refers to this form as “dance circus,” a style in which acrobatics, choreography, and physical storytelling merge to form an organic theatrical language.

In its productions, dance is not merely a choreographic element: it becomes a true dramaturgical force, intimately linked to circus disciplines and the visual world of the performance.

With *Festus*, Recirquel continues this exploration by integrating ground-based and aerial acrobatic disciplines into a choreographic vocabulary informed by the expressive traditions of Romani dance.
